U THOUGHTS ON THE  LITURGY U

I am weary.  The yoke of my work responsibilities lies heavily on my shoulders.  Fretting, I glance down and see Sebastian lying at my feet.

His uniquely speckled muzzle rests securely on outstretched paws.  He sleeps while I toil. At first I am jealous and then I remember.

Sebastian didn’t always know how to rest.  He came to me a wounded dog with a tattered past.  His eyes were vacant and his body trembled.

I felt overwhelmed and unequal to the training task at hand  until a wise dog trainer came to save the day (and the dog).  She needed to train me, not Sebastian!

Slowly as I learned to be “top dog”, Sebastian recognized me as such and gladly relinquished his misguided attempts to guard the entire world against imminent disaster!

Sebastian sleeps at my feet while I sit and fret.  Who is wise?  Indeed mere infants (and even dogs) know more than I.

I too must relinquish control to my top dog (God).  Once I have done this I can stop guarding my food and anxiously watching shadows in the night.  “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Now I understand.  For the most part I live my life as if I am God.

No wonder I am weary!  What a burden!  Sebastian – what a good dog – you teach me well.
